The Power Behind the Devi Mantra – Sarva Mangala Mangalye

सर्वमङ्गलमाङ्गल्ये शिवे सर्वार्थसाधिके ।
शरण्ये त्र्यम्बके गौरि नारायणि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥

Sarva-Mangala-Maangalye Shive Sarvaartha-Saadhike |
Sharannye Tryambake Gauri Naaraayani Namostute ||

Meaning:

1: Welcome to you O Narayani; Who is the positiveness in all the auspicious, one who is so auspicious herself and has all auspicious qualities and who fulfills all the Objectives of the Devotees (Purusharthas - Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha),

2: The provider of protection, the one with 3 eyes and a beautiful face; We salute you, O Narayani.

Goddess Narayani is also known to be the power behind Lord Vishnu. Let us all invoke the blessings of Goddess Narayani Devi by chanting this mantra.

Important aspect is the line “Triyambake gauri” – “The one with 3 eyes” – Shiva is the one with 3 eyes (netrikkan) and Shakthi is half of Lord Shiva (as Ardhanariswarar) – so it also applies to Shakti…”siva” means that which is auspicious. And if Shakthi is half of Shiva and if she is “sarva mangala” – it means shakthi is the holiest…As per Shakthi upasana – Rudran (not Shiva himself as that is the primordial), Brahma and Mahavishnu are the legs of the cot on which she sits,so Rajarajeswari is the mother of all.
